Singing the Story: Acting Through Song

Ages: 13-18
Hingham campus

Step beyond simply singing a song and discover how to perform it with depth, meaning, and intention. In this class, students will choose a pre-selected song (either in the classical or Broadway style) and explore its story from multiple angles, including text, poetry, historical context, and emotional meaning, to uncover what makes it truly come alive.

Through guided research and creative exploration, students will learn tools to better understand their music and use that knowledge to shape authentic dramatic performances. They will consider questions such as what the song is really saying, who it was written for, and what story sits beneath the lyrics.

Each student will perform their song multiple times throughout the course, refining their interpretation as their understanding grows. The class culminates in a final performance where students present their fully developed interpretation and share the discoveries that informed their artistic choices.

This class is designed for singers who want to think like storytellers and bring music to life in a deeper, more meaningful way.
