TUITION ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS OVERVIEW
As a non-profit community school for the arts, South Shore Conservatory has access at the heart of its mission. Our goal is to help make an SSC education a possibility for families by providing tuition assistance to those who may need financial support.
Financial need-based tuition assistance is available for the academic year, and families can apply online, by mail or in-person. SSC tuition assistance is made possible by the generosity of SSC Fund donors who believe in making the arts accessible for all. To ensure timely processing, we ask that families provide the most recent tax information at the time of application submission.
While we believe our enhanced payment and scheduling flexibility will work well with most students, we are equally committed to assisting those who qualify for tuition support.
If you have any questions please email tuitionassistance@sscmusic.org.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do I know that SSC received my completed tuition assistance application and tax information?
Once both components of your application (online form and a copy of IRS 1040) have been received, reviewed and submitted for approval, you will receive an email with a determination. - Can I apply for tuition assistance if I’ve missed a given deadline?
While SSC cannot guarantee the availability of funds after posted deadlines, applications will be reviewed and awarded on a rolling basis as long as tuition assistance funds remain available. Please note that applications submitted outside of the summer deadline may have limited availability due to the short duration of the session. - I applied for assistance in advance of the deadline. Will I hear back sooner than the time frame stated above?
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received by the Tuition Assistance Committee following the application deadline. As a result, all applicants will receive a response after the committee has met, within the timeframes noted above.
We do, however, appreciate early submissions and will keep all applications on file for review once the deadline for the semester noted has passed. - Will you notify me if my family wasn’t eligible for an award?
Absolutely; if an applicant is not deemed eligible for tuition assistance, the family still receives an email response.
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES
- If you are applying for tuition assistance for private lessons as a new student:
Your application will allow for a maximum 30-minute lesson for the first semester. If interested in extending the lesson duration in the following semester, additional approval may be necessary. - To apply for Fall and/or Spring Tuition Assistance:
Please submit an online application and send a copy of your most recent IRS 1040 forms by the deadline(s) noted above. Although you are not able to attach the tax forms to the online application, you should send the tax forms to tuitionassistance@sscmusic.org at the same time the online application is submitted to avoid confusion or delays. - To apply for Summer Tuition Assistance:
Please note that SSC requires a fresh online application as well as a copy of your most recent IRS 1040 forms in order to process your summer tuition assistance application. - If you applied for/received tuition assistance for the Summer session and want to continue in the Fall:
SSC requires that you only submit an online Fall application by the July 15 deadline; you do not need to resubmit your IRS 1040 form, if the ones previously submitted are for the current tax year. - If you are a new or returning applicant who has filed for an extension on taxes and you do not anticipate being able to provide SSC with copies of the most recent IRS 1040 forms:
You may instead provide SSC with a copy of your extension form (IRS Form 4868) along with a copy of the prior year’s IRS form 1040 and submit your online application. - If you plan to apply/applied for assistance for summer session, but did not submit your most recent IRS 1040 forms (and submitted in place your IRS Form 4868 with previous year’s IRS 1040):
SSC will require your up-to-date IRS 1040 forms by the July 15 deadline in order to process your Fall assistance application.
