Teaching Artist Statement
A passion for music and teamwork led me to a career in ensemble music. It is a thrill to help musicians through the learning process to a place where we can listen to each other and make music together. I always encourage musicians to try new things, even if they make a mistake – this is how they learn and grow and take ownership of their music.
Teaching Bio
Leigh Schoepflin graduated with her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Delaware, and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia (UGA). While attending UGA, Leigh served as the Recruitment Coordinator and ensemble director of the UGA String Project, a national organization dedicated to promoting music and fostering music education in the public school system. Leigh has been educating musicians, leading orchestras, and organizing festivals across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts ever since. In 2018 while she was the string orchestra teacher in Phoenixville, PA, the district was voted one of the Best Communities for Music Education from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Leigh currently teaches elementary strings in the Marshfield Public Schools. She joined the SSC faculty in 2020.
Performance Bio
Leigh Schoepflin has led student ensembles on festival stages across the country, including Festivals of Music in Chicago, IL, Music in the Parks at various locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and Disney Performing Arts in Orlando, FL. She was also a regular substitute conductor for the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) in Newtown, PA. Participation in the YOBC as a student led to international tours in Scandinavia, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy. As a violist, Leigh studied at the Brevard Music Center and performed with the Chester County Pops and Amici Strings before moving to Massachusetts. Nowadays, she enjoys performing locally as a pit musician and as a violist in the Parkway Concert Orchestra. She joined the SSC faculty in 2020.
