Sean Larkin

Teaching Artist Statement
My teaching is focused on unlocking the artistic potential in each student through detailed technical study. A close interrogation of the techniques, both large and small, that go into playing one’s instrument leads to a level of mastery that allows the student to fully engage with the emotional and expressive content of the music that they perform. A typical lesson will include technical exercises and etudes from a wealth of resources (Simon Fischer, Dounis, Sevcik, Schradieck, etc.) that serve the repertoire each student is working on. My ultimate goal is to help my students become kinder and more empathetic people. Music has the power to connect us more deeply to ourselves and to those around us, and my greatest joy comes from witnessing a student make this discovery.
