Maria Bounas is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a certificate in Viola Performance Honors. After graduating from Syracuse University, Ms. Bounas went on to teach elementary Strings in Marshfield, MA for six years while also completing her Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford.
Ms. Bounas joined the Duxbury Public Schools music department in 2020. There she is Orchestra Director for three middle school orchestras and three high school orchestras. Currently, Ms. Bounas also directs the Duxbury Symphony orchestra after school and has a large private lesson studio of students across grades 6-12. Recently, Ms. Bounas conducted the Duxbury High School String Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in New York City and Strathmore Hall in North Bethesda, MD. She has also been an active member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Music Educators Association serving as an adjudicator and orchestra manager over the past several years. From 2018-2020, Ms. Bounas directed the Repertory Youth Orchestra at the South Shore Conservatory.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Bounas participates in several local playing opportunities. She has been a member of the Southeastern Philharmonic orchestra and regularly plays with the Southeastern Massachusetts Festival Chorus.
