Maral Annaovezova

Teaching Artist Statement
I see the future of classical music in the eyes of all my students. My mission, as a pedagogue, is to elicit and showcase the best of their abilities. In my teaching, I tailor my approach to effectively respond the student’s needs, while exhibiting their strengths. Right away, I try to create a supportive and trusting environment where students open up, learn, challenge themselves and develop their own goals. Together we are building a path where each student can cultivate their artistry and technique, and reach their full musical potential.

Teaching Bio
Turkmen pianist Maral Annaovezova began her musical studies at the age of five under Professor Alexander Anatolyevich Starikov at the Turkmen National Conservatory. Leading up to that she was taught theory and musicianship by her mother, Jeren Kurbanklycheva, the first nationally-recognized female composer in her county’s history. Upon graduation from the Turkmen National Conservatory in 2014, with degrees in Piano Pedagogy, Chamber Music Performance and Collaborative Piano, Maral was awarded a tenured faculty position at the same institution. At the conservatory, Maral studied with a Merited Artist of Turkmenistan, Vladimir Mrktumov, and was also coached by eminent pianists Meredova Tatyana Kochiyevna and Orazgul Annamuradova. Maral’s mentors in chamber music and collaborative piano were Stella Faramazova and Anna Ishanova.

Maral moved to the United States in summer 2014 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, where she studied under Ludmilla Lifson and Donald Berman, and graduated in 2016. In her first years of working in the US, Maral demonstrated outstanding pedagogical talent. In 2017, her student scored the highest in his state in the Royal Conservatory of Music Certification Examination, and performed in the RCM Excellence recital in Carnegie Hall in New York City, in February 2018. In Spring 2017, Maral Annaovezova created the Piano Duet Full Scholarship Program at a small music school in Quincy, MA, in memory of her late piano duo teacher Meredova Tatyana Kochiyevna. Sensitive to the school’s limited budget, Maral launched and taught the program exclusively through volunteer time. A life-long learner, Maral believes in education as a journey of continuous self-development, and annually attends conferences such as Music Teachers National Association Annual Conference, and the Francis Clark Institute National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. She joined South Shore Conservatory in 2018.
