Summer Wind Ensemble Program Assistant
Kristian Labrie is a music educator and percussionist based in Lowell, MA. Since 2022, he has served as the Instrumental Music Teacher at Joseph G. Pyne Arts Magnet School, where he directs the Exploratory Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Percussion Ensemble. He received his B.M. in Music Education from Ithaca College, with concentrations in percussion and music theory, where he studied with Gordon Stout and Conrad Alexander. In between his time at Ithaca and his position at the Pyne, he was selected for and attended SMF's Teaching Fellow program in 2022. He is currently working on his M.M. in Music Education at the American Band College.
A strong advocate for equity in music, Kristian serves on the board of Jazzhers, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing jazz performance and education opportunities to female and non-binary students. As a performer, he is a regular member of the Charles River Wind Ensemble and the Commonwealth Wind Symphony, and has performed with the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, New England Film Orchestra, Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Philharmonic, Lexington Concert Band, and Chelmsford Community Jazz Band. He also performs regularly as a pit musician in productions across the greater Boston area.
