Teaching Artist Statement
I believe strong technique provides the foundation for a dancer, while creativity, expression, and curiosity transform movement into a meaningful art. My goal as an educator is to create an environment where dancers are challenged, inspired, and empowered to grow both as artists and as individuals. Teaching with passion, I hope to foster a supportive space where dancers develop a deeper understanding of their bodies, movement, and unique artistic voices. By emphasizing body awareness, proper technique, and mindful training, I strive to give each dancer the insight to move with intention and the confidence to use their bodies to their fullest potential. My hope is that every student leaves my classroom not only as a stronger dancer but also as a more confident, thoughtful, and expressive individual.
Teaching Bio
Marisa Roman began her training at Children’s Dance Workshop with Nan Keating in Hingham and later at Boston Ballet School in Norwell. As a full ballet scholarship student, Marisa received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hartford (Hartt School) in Ballet Pedagogy. During her time there she taught ballet at the Hartt Community School (a division of the Hartt School at the University of Hartford) and followed a Cechetti based curriculum. She also attended the Martha Graham School of Dance with a full scholarship.
Some of her performance repertoire include roles in Giselle, Les Sylphides, Napoli, Martha Graham’s Panorama, Paquita, The Nutcracker, and Balanchine’s Valse Fantasie.
In 2011, Marisa received her certification in children’s yoga instruction. In 2012, she completed her certification with ABT’s National Training Curriculum for levels Primary through level 3. She has presented students for examination and is currently an ABT Primary – Level 3 Affiliate teacher.
Marisa has been teaching at pre-professional schools on the South Shore for the past 18 years, serving as the Head of the Young Dancers Program and Head of the Lower School at South Shore Ballet Theatre from 2010-2026. She is thrilled to join the dance faculty at South Shore Conservatory in 2026.
