Teaching Artist Statement
I believe ballet training should develop both technical excellence and artistic expression. Through individualized instruction emphasizing musicality, lyricism, athleticism and safe, thoughtful corrections, I inspire dancers of all ages to achieve their highest potential while discovering a lifelong joy of movement.
Teaching Bio
Alyssa Bennett Igo is a ballet educator and choreographer with decades of experience working with dancers of all ages and levels. She trained with distinguished faculty from the School of American Ballet, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada, with extensive study in the Balanchine, Cecchetti, Russian (Vaganova), and Bournonville methods. She performed with the New York City Ballet under the artistic direction of George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Jacques d'Amboise, and Peter Martins, experiences that continue to shape her approach to teaching.
Over the years, Alyssa has shared her love of ballet through teaching at South Shore Ballet Theatre in Hingham, the University of Vermont, and Duxbury's Before and After Dark program, while also choreographing and directing performances. Her teaching emphasizes strong classical technique, musicality, artistry, and individualized instruction, helping each dancer reach their fullest potential.
Her students have continued their training at prestigious schools throughout the United States and abroad and have earned recognition at Youth America Grand Prix competitions. Alyssa is passionate about fostering technical excellence, artistic expression, and a lifelong love of dance while helping every student grow in confidence, discipline, and artistry. Alyssa started teaching at SSC in 2026.
