Performance Bio
Robyn Xu is Boston-based eclectic pianist and harpsichordist who is dedicated to exploring lesser-known and under-represented composers in the two extreme poles of music spectrum - Early music and New music. Robyn is highly engaged both domestically and internationally, working as a soloist and chamber musician. She has shared her artistry in diverse locations, such as China, Vienna, Italy, and the U.S.
As a pianist, Robyn’s recent crowning achievement was a performance of the complete Chopin 24 Preludes in her solo recital. She thrives on creating music with others across a range of genres and settings, including The Addams Family with the Chelsea High School Chorus, Sondheim and Sondheim at Longy School of Music, and an outdoor concert with the Greater Lowell Symphonic Orchestra at Acrefest. She has also premiered works such as Delvyn Case’s solo cantata The Binding of Isaac at All Saints Anglican Church in Amesbury, MA, which was broadcast internationally from London’s Parish of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
Robyn’s passion for early music led her to specialize as a harpsichordist, where her continuo skills shine. She has performed works such as Vivaldi’s Gloria at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Marblehead and Castello’s Sonata Prima at the Boston Early Music Festival. Her versatility extends beyond traditional performance, such as improvising solo piano for local artist Karl Stephan’s Ink and Water artwork Natural Magick and live piano and violin for Stephan’s exhibition, KSx20: Persistence of Light. As a recording artist, she also accompanied the new opera album Violetta by Quinn Gutmann and Leo Balkovetz, which is available on all major streaming platforms, and recorded selections of C.P.E. Bach’s repertoire with singer David Mather for the Packard Humanities Institute.
In addition to her performance work, Robyn serves as Music Director at Church Christ United in Dracut, MA, where she leads the music program, conducts the choir, and organizes performances that engage the local community.
