Melodies of Ireland: Tradition and Influence

Join us for an afternoon of history, storytelling, and stunning live performance as we explore the rich traditions of Irish music. The event begins with a 3 pm pre-concert talk tracing the evolution of Irish music in Ireland and around the world. Audience members will learn about the instruments, historical, and cultural events that have shaped Irish traditional music.

The 4 pm concert features SSC Strings Department Chair Christine Hedden and her partner, renowned multi-instrumentalist Caoimhín Ó Fearghail. Together they will share Irish traditional music on uilleann pipes, flute, and fiddle. From ancient airs to lively reels, discover how Irish music has shaped and been shaped by cultures across the globe.
