South Shore Conservatory’s Cocktails for Community shined the spotlight on access and inclusivity
The Cohasset Anchor - March 20, 2025

South Shore Conservatory (SSC) friends and community partners gathered on Friday, March 7 for Cocktails for Community at Boston Harbor Distillery for a feel-good night celebrating SSC’s Creative Arts Therapies and ImagineARTS programs through powerful storytelling and conversation with local leaders and live performances from their community.

Michelle Markowitz, President & CEO of Cardinal Cushing Centers, set the tone as she spoke of the close ties SSC has with Cushing’s students and staff. She recalled when Hingham architect Jerry Seelen was hired to renovate the Cushing Center auditorium into an accessible performance space, and the full circle moment when his son, Nick, a member of SSC Community Voices, Too! chorus, was one of the first performers to benefit from the renovated stage.

Building A Better Community: Nonprofits At Work South Shore Conservatory
The Hingham Anchor - March 12, 2025 By Beth Porter

Todd Swavey is Director of Arts Education and Cynthia Krebs-Lee is Senior Director, Institutional Advancement

Beth: What is South Shore Conservatory (SSC) best known for, and what should it be best known for?

Cynthia: We’re best known for our comprehensive music education, and it’s well-deserved. We offer training for almost every instrument, and our faculty are incredible. What people know less about are our Creative Arts Therapies through which we work with hospice patients, neurodiverse kids, underserved communities – so much more. Lots of communities also benefit from our Imagine Arts program focused on strengthening early literacy skills.

Todd: I’d add that people think we’re just about classical music, but we’re so much more. We have rock bands and dance classes and a jazz program. And you don’t need to take a lesson before you come. Any level is welcome and is celebrated.

South Shore Conservatory receives grant from Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism
MASS NONPROFIT NEWS - January 9, 2025

South Shore Conservatory (SSC) has announces it is a recipient of an Autism Community Impact Grant of $7,500 from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. These necessary funds allow SSC to offer more Creative Arts Therapies programming for individuals living with autism, allowing them to engage in arts activities outside their homes.

The Autism Community Impact Grant is awarded through an application process and supports traditionally underserved, underfunded, culturally diverse communities reflected in the Flutie Foundation's areas of impact.

South Shore Conservatory strives to be the leader in inclusive and accessible arts education on the South Shore. These funds help remove financial barriers which may stop individuals from participation. SSC music therapists have found that making music together builds social capital and allows participants to become part of a real community. It also gives them tools to express themselves in a healthy way and boost confidence outside of a studio or classroom.
