Winds Department - Core Philosophy
|Wind Department Chair - Donald Zook|
Welcome to the Woodwind and Brass departments at SSC! By choosing to study a woodwind or brass instrument you and your child are joining a community of teachers, parents and students committed to the highest ideals in performing arts education. Instruction is offered in both our in Hingham and Duxbury campuses. In addition to studying their instrument of choice they are strongly encouraged to participate in chamber music ensembles with a vast array of traditional and contemporary literature. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in basic musicianship and theory classes, have a full orchestra experience with BAYS youth symphony, as well as a chance to hear world-class faculty perform. In addition, students will have the opportunity to perform in weekly workshops and monthly recitals.
Students may start lessons on flute, saxophone, clarinet, bassoon, oboe, trumpet, trombone, tuba or French horn as early as grade four or five. Students may begin Suzuki instruction on flute as early as age four. Private lessons are offered at 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute lengths. Group instruction (for three or more students) is 60 minutes in length. Click here for complete pricing.
