Susan Goodwin-May, All Star Band Conductor, Trombone
Originally from Milton, MA, Susan Goodwin-May is an active music educator and bass trombonist. Susan holds a Bachelors of Music degree (cum laude) from the University of Massachusetts in Bass Trombone Performance and Music Education, where she studied with retired trombone Professor David D. Sporny. After graduating she taught band, jazz ensemble and small group lessons for 3 years at the Converse Middle School in Palmer, MA and was also the low brass teacher for the Minnechaug Regional High School. In 2011 she was nominated by her fellow teachers and received the Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award from the Grinspoon Foundation. She left Massachusetts to continue her studies and is currently finishing her Master of Music in Bass Trombone performance degree at the University of Maryland College Park, where she studies with Matthew Guilford, bass trombonist of the National Symphony Orchestra. While in graduate school, Susan has maintained an active private teaching studio and is also the brass teacher for the Friends Community School in College Park, MD in addition to playing with local groups. Susan has been on the faculty for the Summer Music Festival since 2009.
