Early Childhood Programs - Core Philosohpy

A child’s first experiences with music should foster a joy and a love of music. At South Shore Conservatory we strive to provide a nurturing environment that promotes an atmosphere of discovery. All activities are developmentally appropriate and allow children to experience music aurally and kinesthetically. These activities go beyond musical development, engaging the child mentally, physically and emotionally and contributing to the development of their motor, language and creative skills.
Parents play a key role in this process. A child will respond to parents’ voices immediately and will imitate as they hear them sing, laugh and talk. Parents are the child’s primary role models, and teaching parents to sing, play and enjoy music with their child is crucial to the child’s learning. Together they discover and learn a variety of tonal and rhythmic patterns as they make music their own by making their own music.
We believe that by offering a comprehensive and sequential program for children from birth through age five we can maximize their potential to learn, understand and enjoy music. Our curriculum draws from many music education philosophies, including Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, Weikhart and Gordon Music Learning Theory. By focusing on the most basic skills of steady beat, rhythm and pitch, we can provide young children with a strong foundation from which their skills in music can grow.
