Bay Youth Symphony’s new summer program allows string students to continue their musical growth over summer vacation. Participation in BaYS during the school year is not a requirement for enrollment in this special summer program - all are welcome! String students are welcome to participate in a chamber music ensemble, as well as in one of the larger ensembles at another time during the day. Wind instrument students are encouraged to participate in one of the BaYS’ Symphony Chamber Music Ensembles, designed with the more experienced musician in mind. Times for chamber music can be determined by the ensemble members and their coach.
Symphony Chamber Music Ensembles

Open to string or wind instrument students interested in studying and performing in trios, quartets and/or quintets. Students rehearse with their small ensembles for one hour per week. The six-week program culminates in a final performance. Students will be placed in an appropriate level ensemble. Ensembles are overseen by the BaYS Music Director and the South Shore Conservatory faculty.
Summer Junior String Ensemble
10:00 - 11:00 am

Open to intermediate level string students interested in continuing their musical growth and ensemble experience during the summer. Students rehearse with their ensemble for one hour per week. The six-week program culminates in a final performance. Ensemble will be overseen by the BaYS Music Director and the South Shore Conservatory faculty.
Summer String Ensemble

Open to advanced string students interested in continuing their musical growth by performing with a large ensemble during the summer. This ensemble rehearses for one hour per week. The six-week program culminates in a final performance. Ensemble will be overseen by the BaYS Music Director and South Shore Conservatory faculty.
Students not already participating in a BaYS ensemble should call 781-749-7565, ext. 32 or email c.kniffen@sscmusic.org to schedule a placement audition. Students currently in BaYS do not need to audition. Students will be placed in an appropriate level ensemble. All BaYS summer classes are offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment.
