Teaching Artist Statement
While I am teaching a one-on-one cello lesson, I do not think in terms of teaching a cello player; rather I believe I am teaching the person as a whole. Each person has a different physicality, personality and a different mindset so I always try to respect and recognize all these differences, and try to help the person grow in terms of technique, musicianship, and even spirit. I believe music is not just sound - music reflects the performing player's emotions, knowledge, philosophy and spirit. And I hope my students can express all these aspects through the cello. To achieve this goal, I’ll encourage the student to learn with passion and enjoyment. I take great pride in developing skills in future generations of musicians and my teaching philosophy is based on always putting the needs of the student first and customizing the teaching method to best-fit the skill level and learning needs of the particular student(s) in question.
