Teaching Artist Statement 
My teaching has been shaped by some of the great instructors who helped me from grade school through college. I consider myself patient, compassionate and thorough with my lessons. Teaching is something I work at every day.

Teaching Bio
John McCarthy began teaching guitar in the late '70s while studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. John began working at South Shore Conservatory in 2001, teaching guitar and bass at both SSC campuses and schools involved in the Community Partnership program. John graduated from Berklee with a BM in composition.

Performing Bio
After graduating with a BM in composition, John McCarthy toured the US playing rock 'n' roll and Top 40 music. Performances and recordings as a guitarist, bassist and singer in situations from soloist to orchestra member playing jazz, rock, country and theatre productions (Les Miserables, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar etc.) have been his musical life since then.  John began working at South Shore Conservatory in 2001, teaching guitar and bass at both SSC campuses and schools involved in the Community Partnership program.
