Arts-integrated Literacy Residency
Fostering an early love of reading through music and the arts

ImagineARTS is an arts-integrated literacy residency program currently partnering with the Brockton Public School district to strengthen early literacy skills among PreK students. It targets specific literacy skills such as sequencing, rhyming, letter sound recognition and syllables through weekly arts-integrated literacy instruction, professional development for classroom teachers, and a bridge to reading and the arts for families.

Weekly Arts & Literacy Classes
SSC Arts Specialists bring stories to life through singing, movement, dramatic improvisation and instrument play. Activities are selected and adapted to deepen comprehension of story content, introduce thematic vocabulary, and address literacy skills including sequencing and phonemic awareness.

Support for Teachers
ImagineARTS provides access to songs, books, and materials for classroom teachers, empowering them to incorporate the arts into their daily literacy activities.

Family Engagement
We encourage students and their families to enjoy music and reading together by providing storybooks from the curriculum as well as Family Music Nights.

What our partners are saying…

Our students at the Oscar F. Raymond Elementary School look forward to the Imagaine ARTS program and the songs that they are learning can be heard throughout the classrooms all year long. It is exciting to see how the Imagine ARTS staff bring stories to life through song and dance and engage the students through a multimodal approach, which allows for all students to participate in the activities.

In addition to the in school benefits, this program has brought the opportunity for families to come back into the building for family music nights and an end of the year concert, at which, the students get to showcase their songs that they have been working so hard on, to their families. This was one of my favorite days last year, seeing the students so proud of themselves and being able to show off everything they had accomplished- all with smiles from ear to ear.

-Melanie Hart, Principal of the Oscar F. Raymond Elementary School

The smiles the Imagine ARTS program bring to our students' faces are contagious. Each year, our Kindergarten students benefit from the highly engaging curriculum. Our students eagerly await their weekly visit from the Imagine ARTS specialist who brings stories to life through music and movement. I myself love to join the rooms during these lessons to take in the joy being exhibited by our students while participating.

-John L Kelly, Principal of the Angelo Elementary School

With students at varied levels of ability and English proficiency, we have found the ImagineARTS, arts-integrated learning model to be one of the most universally inclusive and engaging programs we have ever had at our school. The staff and students look forward to ImagineARTS day every week!

-Valerie Brower, Principal of the Mary E. Baker School

ImagineARTS with Ms. Kaitlyn was most valued by the students and teachers. The students really enjoyed being together and singing the songs, listening to the story of the week, learning the letter and phonemic awareness activities that Ms. Kaitlyn reviewed.

-Kristen Crugnale, teacher at the Oscar F. Raymond Elementary School

The children have fun during ImagineARTS in a safe environment. The children loved using the rhythm sticks, the egg shakers, and the scarfs. It made Mondays something that everyone looked forward to.

-Heidi McMaster, teacher at the Arnone Elementary School

South Shore Conservatory's lmagineARTS program uses music, drama, dance and stories to promote important literacy skills such as sequencing, rhyming, and re-telling - reinforcing reading readiness and vocabulary development. Teachers also benefit from the powerful modeling of these lessons, transferring arts integrated techniques into their own instructional practice.

-Natalie Pohl, Principal of the Manthala George, Jr. Global Studies School
