Teaching Statement
For Students of School Age: Learn how to achieve excellence through the regimen of piano lessons from the start as well as how to express one’s innermost feelings during the process of music making.

Teaching Bio
Ms. Wang started piano lessons at the age of 4 and also studied violin starting at age 8. She attended Taipei’s municipal Class for Musically Gifted from elementary through middle school. She played viola with the Taipei Century Youth Orchestra which won first prize in Vienna’s International Youth Music Festival competition, participated in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, and toured Europe and Singapore in the summer of 1980. Upon winning the top prize at Taiwan National Piano Competition at age 14, Ms. Wang received the distinction of Excellence Award in Young Artistic Talents from the Ministry of Education of Taiwan. At age 16, she began her studies at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. She furthered her studies with Bulgarian pianist and mentor Krassimira Jordan, first in Vienna and then at Baylor University. In 1991, Ms. Wang was the inaugural recipient of a graduate meritorious award in piano in recognition of the fulfillment of high performance standards at Baylor, and went on to complete a Master of Music degree. She received a Graduate Diploma in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory, and later held a position as staff pianist and opera coach, 1994-98, at The Hartt School, University of Hartford in Connecticut.

Ms. Wang joined the piano faculty at South Shore Conservatory (SSC) in 1998 and has served as Piano Department Chair, Dean of Students, and Advisor to the President. During her tenure, she has lead and pioneered programs such as the Concerto Competition, Piano Solo Competition, Workshop and Recital Series, Summer Chamber Academy, and has also facilitated bringing famed artists to SSC for concerts and master classes regularly. Ms. Wang’s students continuously represent SSC in performances and events, are frequent winners at SSC’s Concerto Competition, and have performed as soloists with the Hingham Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and SSC’s own Evening Under the Stars Orchestra. They have won top awards at Massachusetts Music Teachers Associations' Bay State Contest, Steinway Society Piano Competition, Russian Music Competition, and have performed in prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, DiMenna Center for Classical Music and Carnegie Hall. In 2010, Ms. Wang was recognized with an award for her outstanding service to the Conservatory, and in 2013 she received the “Music Is…Award” for outstanding faculty service and teaching. In 2018, the Herzfelder family who were her former students, made a generous donation to establish the HuiMin Wang Youth Concerto Competition at SSC.

Performance Bio
Ms. Wang is an active collaborative artist, and has appeared in concerts and festivals with various renowned artists throughout the United States, Taiwan, and China. She has performed in venues such as the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C., the National Recital Hall in Taipei, Jincheng Palace of Fine Arts in Chengdu, and the Recital Hall at the Grand Theatre in Shenzhen.

Ms. Wang is an avid chamber musician and especially loves working with singers where she enjoys exploring the literature of Lieder and art songs. She has been featured numerous times live on WGBH Boston, and recorded for both NPR’s Alamo Classics and Boston Records labels. In 1999, Ms. Wang premiered Gunther Schuller’s Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano. She has been featured on several First Monday concerts and faculty performances at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, as well as concerts at Carnegie Hall and Harvard University’s Sanders Theater. She appears regularly with her musician friends in the greater Boston area.
