Flute Symphony was a great experience. It's such a community and you grow close with people through a mutual love of music. Rebecca Eneyni

Flute Symphony has been the highlight of my summer for the past few years. It's a really fun way to interact with other flute players of many different back grounds. It's a very welcoming environment and really helps you grow as a player. Jillian Benway

I love flute symphony and do it every single year! Everyone is so nice and welcoming, no matter how good you are or how long you've been playing. It's inspired me every year to work my hardest and play the best that I can. And of course, we have the most energetic director! Caitlin Waugh

Flute Symphony is a place where flute players of all ages, all abilities, and all walks of life come together in a fun, summer music camp atmosphere to build friendships with and encourage other flute players, in a one-of-a-kind experience. Donald Zook, an experienced, caring conductor guides us in playing a variety of different parts that, when woven together with other parts, produce a one of a kind, amazing sound. Flute Symphony is truly a one of a kind gem. Flute Symphony 2017

Music inspired by the movies

Donald Zook, Program Director/Conductor
Joann Bellis, New Artist Conductor
Nicole Fantasia & Stephanie Sousa, Chamber Music Directors

Wednesday evenings starting June 14
Final Concert: Wednesday, August 2

Jane Carr Amphitheater One Conservatory Drive, Hingham

Join the largest flute symphony in the nation!

Summer after summer, Flute Symphony players come to South Shore Conservatory to meet and perform with some of the area’s best professional and amateur flutists.

The program acquaints students with a variety of music styles, from baroque and classical, to “pop” and jazz, and introduces the music of present-day composers. Students gain stronger skills in reading, intonation, listening, breathing, improvisation, phrasing and musicianship, and learn to think in terms of harmony as well as melody.

Solo Competition

Challenge yourself with the solo competition! The audition piece must be five minutes or less in length. This competition is open to Artist and Advanced Artist members only. Auditions are June 14, 2017 during rehearsal. Winners receive a cash prize and a solo spot on the final concert.

Chamber Ensemble

Delve into the world of chamber music! Artist and Advanced Artist Ensemble members may audition to perform in a smaller ensemble setting and work as a team. Each group meets individually for an hour before their scheduled Flute Symphony rehearsal time. Auditions are held on the first night of Flute Symphony. No extra fee for chamber music.
