Teaching Artist Statement
I feel that the art of playfulness is essential to unfolding the creative potential in all children. To model play for children, the adult must allow for this joyful process to unfold naturally. This process requires an extravagance of time, passion, energy, and joy. By exploring and exercising within this process, the child uses their imagination and creativity while the awestruck educator participates in wonder, documenting this journey in words or pictures.

Teaching Bio
Carol Forbes Scheig has worked passionately in the early childhood education (ECE) field for over 40 years. She started as SSC’s Preschool/PreK/Kindergarten Director and classroom teacher in 1977 and continued for 38 years, when she decided to turn over the directorship reigns and return to the classroom fulltime. As director, Carol molded the program into the successful and innovative arts-integrated program it is today. A magna cum laude graduate from Curry College holding a Bachelor of Arts degree, and two licenses from the Mass DOE and the Mass DEEC, Carol is a member of Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities, and a recipient of the Perry Normal Early Childhood award for excellence. She is certified in Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) methodology.

Carol has lectured and conducted workshops for educators and parents on topics such as the importance of the arts in education and incorporating play into children’s daily lives. She is carrying on the arts tradition with her daughter Lindsey, and her granddaughter Evie.
