Jennie Mulqueen

Jennie Mulqueen, soprano, hails from a rather diverse background. After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Voice Performance, Jennie headed back to New York to get some real performing experience under her belt. Her operatic roles include Susannah in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Musetta in La Boheme, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, and Adele in Die Fledermaus. While doing the audition and "training" circuit in NY, Jennie also began exploring the fine art of recital work and found she particularly enjoyed putting songs together to make a story or explore a theme, which would factor in later to her cabaret work. It was also during this time that Jennie discovered the national program Music Together® and began her work of nurturing musical families, work to which she is deeply committed and has continued for over 13 years. Most importantly, the Music Together philosophy has instilled a core belief that singing and dancing is our human birthright.

In 1997 Jennie moved to MA to earn her M.Ed. in the Creative Arts in Learning program at Lesley College. From 2000-2006 she served as section leader and soloist at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Newton. After being invited to sing at an annual cabaret fundraiser in 2000, Jennie rediscovered her love for musical theater and the American Songbook, and, most importantly, SINGING IN ENGLISH! She founded "Conscious Cabaret" in 2003, a venue that explores contemporary life issues, and has performed throughout the Boston area at venues including Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Club Passim, the Women's Well of Concord, The Amazing Things Art Center in Framingham, Sudbury HS, and Pakachoag Music School in Worcester. In 2006, she created Woman Song, a woman's singing class for women who love to sing. In the summer of 2008, Jennie attended the McClosky Vocal Institute and is now thrilled to join the SSC Vocal faculty with an openness to teach any and all students who wish to sing with joy and dedication... and healthy vocal technique. of course!
