Basic Musicianship Workshops

Basic Musicianship is offered to all private lesson, ensemble and Suzuki students to supplement their music literacy. These classes review and teach basic elements of music.


Music Theory Fundamentals Level I and II
MTF I and II are two sequential classes that provide the necessary foundation for all other theory studies. These classes include ear training, rhythm study, and interval and scale construction. MTF I and II are prerequisites for CMS and composition study.

Level I
Hingham: Monday 4:30-5:30
Duxbury: Monday 6:15-7:15

Level II
Hingham: Monday 5:30-6:30, Wednesday 6:30-7:30, Thursday 6:00-7:00 pm
30 weeks/$360


Classical Music Studies
A four-year program that builds on the skills learned in MTF I/II and includes harmonic analysis and the study of music form. Participation in chamber music is recommended

Duxbury: Tuesday 6:00-8:00, Friday 3:00-5:00
30 weeks/$1300, CMS and Chamber: $1665 Materials Fee: $200 (This will cover books and workbooks that will be used throughout the 4-year program.)

AP Music Theory
AP Music Theory is a two year, college level course of study with summer studies at the discretion of the instructor. AP material will encompass everything that has been covered in MTF and CMS, with emphasis on correct construction of four part writing and aural skills. AP Theory meets for 2 hours per week.

30 weeks/$950 plus materials

Private Composition
After two years of Music Theory Fundamentals, a student who shows heightened interest in composition (music writing) may continue through individual lessons. Private and semi-private lessons are available. The rates listed below apply.
