Rock Band

Members of the JRP Dept.

The Rock Band program, for middle and high school students, brings together groups of 3 or more vocalists / instrumentalists to receive weekly coaching on the many facets of growing a successful band. Music is chosen by both the students and the instructor, practiced, then brought to rehearsal where the focus turns toward ensemble playing, group dynamics, the development of a cohesive band-sound, chart reading, improvisation, and active listening. Bands are also coached on how to use the gear typically associated with rock, how to promote themselves, and perhaps most importantly, how to write and rehearse original music through collaborative composition. Value-added Rock Band performances vital to the growth of nascent bands include on campus opportunities at our Open Mic’s and Basement Shows as well as off campus showcases at The Middle East, The New World Tavern, Players, Kiskadee Coffee Co, and more.

For more about the Rock Band program at SSC, contact Erik Caldarone at e.caldarone@sscmusic.org. If you would like to be considered for a position in a newly formed / forming band, please take a moment to fill out our Rock Band and Ensemble Interest Form
