40th Anniversary Events

For the past 40 years, South Shore Conservatory has remained true to its mission of providing access to quality education in the arts. In honor of this milestone we have selected a series of events over the next year that speak to our goal of creating community through the arts. We invite you to be a part of our celebrations and hope you will join us at our 40th Anniversary events.

June 18

Conservatory Celebration
6:00 pm, Hingham Campus
Our year-long 40th Anniversary Celebration begins as we honor those in our Conservatory community who help us fulfill our mission through their commitment to the Conservatory.

July 10

Evenings Under the Stars POPS Concert
7:00 pm, Jane Carr Amphitheater
Conductor Nicholas Palmer was a student during the early years of the Conservatory. We look forward to his return every summer to conduct the Evening Under the Stars Orchestra.

Evenings Under the Stars Presents Amanda Carr

Amanda Carr and the Kenny Hadley Big Band help celebrate two wonderful milestones -- Hingham’s 375th Birthday and the Conservatory’s 40th -- and a special partnership.

Duxbury Music Festival’s Cinderella

With a 40-year tradition of providing opportunities for families to enjoy quality musical programs together, South Shore Conservatory’s Opera by the Bay presents this classic children’s tale.

Duxbury Music Festival’s Sunday in the Park
5:00 - 7:30 pm, Under the Tent on the Town Green, Duxbury
Striving to offer exceptional musical opportunities at no cost, we invite you to bring a picnic supper and enjoy the outstanding DMF faculty and students in concert.

August 27

MONSTER JAM!
6:30 - 9 pm, Ellison Center for the Arts, Duxbury
Middle schoolers grades 6 - 8 rock out with their friends in a “learn, listen and perform” night of excitement. In break-out coaching sessions for horns, woodwinds, rhythm/percussion, strings and voice, kids master the rhythm and riffs for a classic rock tune, performance tips and microphone technique with SSC’s in-house TEMPO program popular performing arts faculty. The event wraps up with an “on the spot” concert gig! Performers should bring their own instruments (SSC provides multiple drum kits), attitude and stage dress. Call-ahead registration is recommended as limited admission will be available at the door. Free door-prize raffles are available to registered participants. Snacks and soda will be provided. The drop-off event welcomes parents back at 8:30 pm to be blown away by the one-night only MONSTER JAM! To register, or for more information, call the Conservatory at

Family Arts Festival

As part of our goal to serve students from 9 months to 90 years, we offer a sampling of our art, music and performance classes.

October 13

Annual Meeting
6:30 pm, Cox Hall, Hingham
This year’s Annual Meeting is and opportunity for Trustees and Overseers to reflect on our past 40 years of providing quality arts education and to consider what the next 40 years will bring.

October 24 Interdepartmental Recital
4:00 pm, Ellison Center for the Arts, Duxbury
For 40 years we have provided excellent, dedicated teachers who are also talented and inspiring performers -- join us for a concert featuring our amazing faculty.
November 3 BaYS Concert
7:30 pm Performing Arts Center, Duxbury
Students and faculty of the Conservatory join BaYS in the world premiere of a special 40th Anniversary commissioned work composed by Conservatory piano teacher John Kramer. The performance will feature all three BaYS orchestras, pianos, singers, rock ensembles and even dancers! This concert also marks the beginning of the fourth season of Bay Youth Symphony.
November 6 & 7 Hansel and Gretel
November 6 at 7:30 pm Hingham Campus
November 7 at 4:00 pm Ellison Center for the Arts, Duxbury

Celebrate Opera by the Bay and its contributions to the wealth of performing arts that have drawn thousands of fans to the Conservatory for 40 years. Hansel and Gretel is the perfect introduction to opera for the whole family.
November 28 Sugarplum Tea Party
1:00 - 3:00 pm Ellison Center for the Arts, Duxbury
Come share a cup of tea with your favorite Nutcracker characters, toast our partnership with the Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre and celebrate having access to professional ballet classes and performances right here on the South Shore.
